Aveh is a kingdom located in the southern desert of Ignas. It is the former center of the Fatima dynasty, and is the homeland of Bartholomew Fatima. Its ongoing war against the Kislev Empire sets the stage of Xenogears.

History[]

Bledavik

Bledavik, Aveh.

On this, the largest continent, a war has been raging between two countries for hundreds of years. In the north of the continent lies the Kislev Empire, in the south lies the desert kingdom of Aveh. The war has gone on for so long that the people have forgotten the cause, knowing only the pointless circle of hostility and tragedy."

Aveh was founded in 9510 by Roni Fatima after the Solaris War, serving as the center of the Fatima dynasty.

Around 300 years ago, war broke out between Kislev and Aveh, with the actual causes lost to history. In 9715, Kislev issued Aveh a declaration of battle lines.

Due to Kislev and Aveh's militaries starting out on equal footing in terms of power, the war ignited a race to excavate ruins in order to gain the technology needed to tip the scales in favor of one country over another.[1] In this arena, Kislev gained a slight upper hand over Aveh, due to the number of engineers and amount of excavated technology.

Around 9979, the two countries were beginning to grow weary of the war. Solaris, wishing for the conflict to continue, remedied this with the re-introduction of Gears through the Ethos branches in each country, replacing the large vessels that had been commonplace before. This reestablished the balance of power between the two countries' militaries, reigniting tensions and prolonging the war, as Solaris had planned.[2]

In 9985, Aveh's military presence began to weaken once more. King Edbart IV, Roni Fatima's descendent and king of Aveh, sought out a possible peace treaty. However, two years later, during King Edbart's fruitful peace talks with the Kislev Empire, his minister Shakhan led a successful coup d'etat with the help of Gebler, Solaris's military force, intending on using their assistance to invade and conquer Kislev.

Wanting to know the true nature of the Fatima Jasper, Shakhan and Gebler had members of the Fatima royal family interrogated using truth serum and torture. King Edbart and Great Mother Elvira, Margie's mother, killed themselves before they could be injected with truth serum, while Baron Francis, Margie's father, died from severe torture. Queen Mariel, Bart's mother, died from the shock of learning that her family had died.[3]

The former prince Bart and his cousin Margie did not escape this treatment, with Bart in particular whipped and beaten. Despite this, they were able to keep from revealing anything due to a strong hypnotism technique passed down in the family, which locked away all memories relating to the family's secret treasure for thirteen years. Until the memory block could wear off, Bart and Margie were locked away.[4] One month later, they were rescued one month later by Sigurd and Bart's retainer Maison, using the Yggdrasil to escape.

Xenogears[]

Elehayym Van Houten leads a top-secret mission to steal Weltall from Kislev. Fleeing into Aveh airspace, one of her squad's Gears is shot down by the pursing Kislev forces. The shrapnel from the explosion injures her Gear, forcing the squad to land in Lahan Village, leading to the events that lead to Fei Fong Wong discovering Weltall and Id destroying Lahan.

As Fei flees with Citan, they become involved in the conflict between Aveh and Kislev, due to both countries wanting Weltall, as well as Bart and his crew. Fei and Citan are drawn into Bart's crew and help him strike back against Shakhan.

After Shakhan's demise, when King Bartholomew Fatima was returned to the throne, he declared that Aveh would become a democratic republic.

Etymology[]

Aveh is is transliterated from Ave in the Japanese version, which was a reference to Av, the name of the fifth month of the Hebrew Calendar. There are in-game signs with Ave on them.
