The Beach of Nothingness is a mysterious and otherworldly all-white beach seen in both Episodes I and III. It is a Limbo-like place visited by those who are either near death or have previously died. In Episode I, Shion Uzuki and Andrew Cherenkov visit the Beach of Nothingness after Cherenkov transforms into a Gnosis and later dies. He relates his past to Shion here and tells her he likes the beach because there is nothing else there but himself. Before disappearing completely, Cherenkov notes that Shion will one day arrive here. Whether she will or not is in doubt after the end of Episode III. In Episode III, Shion once again finds herself on the Beach of Nothingness accompanied by the spirit of Joachim Mizrahi, and together they witness of a vision of KOS-MOS in her true human form, Mary Magdalene.

The Beach of Nothingness also bares mythological references to "Thule".
