|“|| I've always liked this character since I was little. At first glance, it looks very cute, but there's something more to its allure than that.
Bunnie, known as U-kun in the Japanese version, is an unbelievably adorable and cute bunny rabbit.
Bunnie almost acts as some sort of metaphysical guide for Shion Uzuki, his cute design offering a child-like and spiritual innocence among the some of the dark and disturbing chaos in the series. He is essentially the Xenosaga equivalent of Robbie the Rabbit from the Silent Hill series, being a sort of respite from the constant nightmare fuel of Xenosaga.
Bunnie also essentially acts as a symbol of Shion's pure childish innocence: a time before the Miltian Conflict. During the Xenosaga series, the player is forced to watch people die, bloodshed, body horror, nightmare fuel and other disturbing content, and in between, the player is reminded of Bunnie.
Bunnie is said to originally be the creation of a children's book author from planet Tessedora in the T.C. 4630s, but the facts are uncertain. As a result of the character's ambiguous copyright status, a variety of industries have used its cuteness to sell merchandise, creating a mass of wealth.
The character is just as popular even now, in the latter half of the T.C. 4700s; toy store franchises like TOYS UNIVERSE have introduced original variations on the character in addition to selling the original design.
Shion Uzuki has been a huge fan since childhood, and uses it as the procurator for her connection gear. Her phone is also a Bunnie phone.
- A small gag in the series is Bunnie having a disturbing, horrifying, nightmare fuel-inducing face on the back of its head, like Quirinus Quirrell from Harry Potter.
