Mai Magus (マイ・メイガス, Mai Meigasu) is a character in Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra. Fifteen years prior to Episode III, she lived with her grandfather, Aizen Magus, in the Dabrye Mine on Miltia.
Personality[]
Mai is portrayed as fearless and reckless, driven by devotion to her family. Mai is also disliked being pitied, refusing to have Shion comfort her. Jr. replies that she reminds him of a certain someone he knows, possibly referring to Shion's own personality.
Biography[]
Mai's parents died when she was a child. Her father Tethlla Magus died protesting the U-TIC Organization, having been captured by U-TIC and used as a connection experiment test subject at Labyrinthos, where he lost his life.
After losing her father in the Dabrye Mine rebellion, she customized his favorite Auto-Tech Leupold for use in battle and gave it the ability to equip firearms. With Leopold, Mai protects the peace of the Dabrye Mine, baring a vendetta against U-TIC despite not knowing her father's true fate.
However, according to the database, Mai believes in her heart that her father is still alive, and Aizen comments that Mai believes her father's soul lives on in Leupold.
Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra[]
Mai Magus confronts the group with Leupold.
Mai attacks Shion Uzuki's party as they pass through the mines in search of the Elsa. In battle, she uses Leupold.
After losing, Mai requests they kill her, which they refuse. She then tells them to go away.
If the player finds information about her father in the Acute Neurosis Treatment Facility, they can tell Mai. She is grateful for knowing the truth and gives the player Decoder 15. The Segment Address is in Labyrinthos' front area, where the player can find Hinoka Kagura, a sword for Jin Uzuki.

- It is not known if Mai survived the Miltian Conflict.
- Mai resembles Maria Balthasar from Xenogears, and her Auto-Tech, Leupold, is a redesign of Maria's Gear, Seibzehn. The name "Mai" is similar to "Maria," and Balthasar is one of the three magi (singular: magus).
