I reside in Zohar. I am the beginning and the end. The first and the last.
—The Wave Existence's introduction to Fei

The Wave Existence (波動存在, hadō sonzai), mistakenly known as Har in the English translation, is an entity pulled from a higher dimension that became entwined in the creation of humanity on the planet Xenogears takes place on.

Characteristics[]

The Wave Existence is a body-less existence from a higher dimensional space beyond the perception of humans, where everything exists in the form of "waves".[1]

When it appears to Fei Fong Wong, it is a glowing radiant light with a vague suggestion of a body. This, the Wave Existence explains, is due to it being defined by people's perception of it, and that this form is a "virtual version" that Fei's perception created.[2]

When asked if it was "God" by Fei, the Wave Existence replied that from a certain point of view, it could be viewed it as such, but at the same time, it is not. It also explained it is a part of Fei.[3]

History[]

In 4767, the Zohar and the biological computer Kadomony were used to power an interplanetary invasion weapon known as Deus, which was to be used to stop an intensifying interstellar war.[4]

Three months later, on Miktam04β, a series of top-secret tests were conducted on the Zohar and Deus, connecting it with a higher dimensional space and synchronizing with the Wave Existence. Pulled through the Path of Sephirot into the four dimensional world, the Wave Existence was forced to materialize into the Zohar, which the Wave Existence refers to as "the cage of fleshly existence".[5]

Now trapped in the Zohar, the Wave Existence made contact with a young boy named Abel. At this point, Abel's "desire to return to his mother" was passed on to the Wave Existence, who embodied these human traits as "the mother's will".[6][7] Wanting to escape its "'cage of fleshly existence'", the Wave Existence realized it needed to be released by Abel.[8]

At this point Wave Existence was split into the three parts: will, power, and body.[9] Its will was incarnated through the newly evolved Kadomony, becoming the original version of Elhaym, as well as the embodiment of the Persona, Kadomony's central element.[10][11][12][13] Its power was then channeled through the Zohar into Abel, enabling Abel to be reborn over and over again as the Contact until the Wave Existence is freed from the Zohar.[14][15] Finally, Its body stayed trapped in the Zohar.

The Wave Existence gave Abel its power so one day he could destroy Deus, which would free the Wave Existence to ascend back its original dimension.

Lacan's contact with the Zohar[]

In 9501, Lacan, a previous incarnation of Fei, made contact with the Zohar. This awakened his powers as the Contact and transformed his Gear into a much more powerful one, Alpha Weltall, much like how Fei would later make contact with the Zohar and receive the Xenogears (Gear). When Lacan died and became Grahf, he lost many of his abilities as the Contact, but kept his Omnigear.

Karellen learns about the Wave Existence[]

Karellen, after analyzing Razael's Tree in Razael, had discovered the dark truth of Deus, as well as the existence of the Wave Existence.

His original goal, Project Noah, was to "resurrect god", but it eventually shifted into reuniting with the Wave Existence, and bringing all of humanity and life on the planet to return "to waves".

Karellen moves on to walk with Wave Existence, which he calls "God".

When Fei came into contact with the Zohar, the Wave Existence was finally able to speak to him. The Wave Existence begged the Contact Fei to destroy the Zohar so it could return to its own dimension. It is sympathetic to Fei's plight and the tragedy it indirectly caused, and went on to encourage Fei when he comes to terms with his past.

The Wave Existence used the Contact to free itself from Deus and the Zohar and return to its dimension via the Path of Sephirot.

It is after merging within Deus that Karellen comes to understand Sophia's words about love, enabling him to pursue a different path: to walk with god.[16]

Trivia[]

  • The name Har may come from a mistranslation of the original script, which was trying to convey that Wave Existence's words were being cut off. At first, one of the words that can be made out is 'Har'. When the Wave Existence repeats itself, it identifies itself as the "being dwelling inside the Zohar".[17]

Quotes[]

  • "God... some would refer to me as that. From a certain point of view, it is right to view me as such. But at the same time, I am not. I... am also a part of you."
  • "In actuality, I do not have a physical form. I am an 'existence' of a higher dimension. A place where time and space is controlled... The fluctuating void... The 'wave existence'..."
  • "I have always wanted to return to my own dimension... And I came to a conclusion. I had to reverse the process. I went through to arrive here. I must be released by the one who installed within me a special feature of this dimension-the 'will'... that one is you."
  • "In the four-dimensional world, Zohar is perfect, so in order to destroy Zohar I need the strength that was attributed to you... Zohar can only be destroyed by the hands of the Contact."
  • "You have experienced much loss and deprivation in your life. It is very tragic. Our contact, and the resulting transference of power and will between you and I, most likely played a part in splitting your personality."
  • "I see... You have managed to accept those tragedies, to tolerate all things, to comprehend... and find where you stand in this world. If you have succeeded to do all these things, I am sure you will succeed in what awaits you now. To liberate all of us... Use the Xenogears... destroy... Zohar..."

Requiring energy, the engine connected this dimension to the higher dimensional space. As a result, that reactor 'merged' or 'synchronized' with the wave existence in that higher dimension... ME. I 'descended' from the point of contact created by the machine through the 'Path of Sephirot', or the domain you are in right now, and incarnated in the four-dimensional world. After I 'advented' to the four-dimensional world, in order to stabilize myself here, I had to exchange, or materialize, my form and enter into the 'modifier' engine... In other words, I became bound in 'Zohar'... the 'cage of fleshly existence'.
