Yuriev

The Yuriev Institute in Episode II.

The Yuriev Institute (ユーリエフ・インスティテュート, Yūriefu Insutite~yūto) is a research institution on the planet Zavarov of the star system Vartas.

The Institute is funded by the Hyams Group, and could have ties to the Ormus organization[citation needed].

History[]

In T.C. 4591, the Draper region of Abraxas was opened up to private use by Dmitri Yuriev after a branch of the Yuriev Institute was built there. Every private business in the biotechnology sector set up shop in the area, hoping to exploit the benefits provided by the Life Recycling Act in a region closely linked with Yuriev, who was behind the law's passing.[1]

The Yuriev Institute seen in Episode II was established in the 4660s.

U.R.T.V.s[]

The Yuriev Institute was the home and training center for the U.R.T.V. units, including the variants: Rubedo, Albedo, Citrine, and Nigredo. Dmitri Yuriev created the U.R.T.V.s to counter the presence of U-DO.

Rubedo, Albedo, and Nigredo were not allowed to leave the Institute. While there, the three frequently traveled into Sakura Mizrahi's mind via the Encephalon. These Encephalon tests were extremely tedious and often took a severe toll on the U.R.T.V.s. The Yuriev Institute's treatment of its child soldiers disturbed Lieutenant General Helmer, who later rescued Rubedo and Nigredo during the Miltian Conflict.

After the Miltian Conflict, only four U.R.T.V.s survived: the variants. Since then, the Yuriev Institute halted development of any more U.R.T.V.s.

After the Miltian Conflict[]

Xenosaga I&II reveals that Yuriev Industries is being maintained by a group called the Salvator Faction in Dr. Yuriev's "absence." Its infrastructure is still operational; all of Yuriev's inner circle had been waiting for was Dr. Yuriev's reawakening in the body of his "son," Nigredo (aka Gaignun Kukai).

In Episode III, Yuriev returns to the head of his corporation, quickly using the Salvator Faction to gain considerable sway in the Federation Parliament. Under his orders, the company quickly sets to work on two new weapons based on the designs of Joachim Mizrahi, Ω Res Novae and the Tactical Warship Merkabah.

Staff[]

The staff at the Yuriev Institute appear to talk to themselves when interacted with by the party leader. If Jr. is set as the leader, however, they react in an unnerved manner, sometimes as if there is a ghost nearby. As with other Encephalon dives, it seems implied that due to his strong emotional connection to the location, the environment and its inhabitants respond more strongly to his presence. Given that Ziggy refers to the three figures of Albedo, Gaignun, and Jr. as "phantoms" the party should follow, interpreting the dynamic as ghostly seems apt.
